When you visit Orlando for the first time, it is important that you have at least some essential information about the city. To help you, we’ve gathered several Orlando facts. We hope it’ll prove useful.


Population: Almost 186,000 people live in Orlando, at an elevation of 106 feet above the sea level.

Land area: The city covers a land area of 93.5 square miles.

Location: Orlando is located in central Florida, 84 miles east of Tampa, at the intersection of I-4 and the Florida Turnpike, in the Eastern Time Zone.

Weather: The highest temperatures are reached in July (92.1°F), while the lowest temperatures are usually registered in January (49.2°F).

Climate: Orlando’s climate is generally warm and pleasant, making it a favorite tourist destination.

Orlando seasons: Winter usually attracts a large number of tourists in Orlando, the average temperatures reaching almost 60°F. Orlando is less crowded during the other seasons, except for the spring and summer breaks. People from all over the world choose to spend their vacation in Orlando, turning the city into a number one tourist destination. During the summer, and especially in the hot July, Orlando invites you to cool off in its famous water parks.

How to Get There

By Air: The Orlando International Airport is the busiest airport in Florida. It serves more than 80 airlines, with 69 national destinations and 27 international destinations. Close to the airport you’ll find all the major car rental companies. For more information, please call 407-825-2001.

The Orlando Sanford International Airport is smaller than the Orlando International Airport but it is developing fast. For more information, please call 407-585-4000.

Airport Transportation: The Orlando International Airport is located 25 miles east of the Walt Disney World and 20 miles away from Downtown Orland. The drive usually takes from 30 to 40 minutes, except for the rush hours, when it may take an hour.

If you wish to drive to the Walt Disney World, you may take the North exit to Highway 528 West and then take highway I-4. You’ll probably get there in 30-40 minutes.

By Car: Traffic is pretty heavy, so driving in Orlando is usually a challenge. Don’t forget to take a map and avoid driving in rush hours, between 7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm. To get to any part of the city, you’ll usually need to take highway I-4.

Getting Around: Most of the Orlando area highways are toll roads. The Bee Line Expressway passes north of the Orlando International Airport, while Highway 408, also called the East-West Expressway passes south of Downtown. Highway 417 links the airport to the Walt Disney World, but it is a bit long and expensive. To get to Orlando’s attractions, you may take highway I-4 and then the Bee Line Expressway.
